Catholic priests network

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Network of Catholic Priests is an association of priests in the Roman Catholic Church in Germany . It was founded in 2001 in Frankfurt am Main, has around 500 members and is considered conservative and tradition-oriented . Its speakers are Guido Rodheudt and Uwe Winkel . The spokesman Hendrick Jolie resigned at the end of November 2012 due to uncovered posts in the controversial internet portal kreuz.net .

Positions

The association, which sees itself as a “community of faith” without permanent memberships, names “the unabridged proclamation of Catholic doctrine”, “faithful observance of the liturgical rules” as well as the “proper dispensing” of the sacraments and the “consistent exercise of the priestly ” as goals Management duties ". A priest would “if he wanted to exercise his office in obedience and loyalty to the magisterium ”, would not “seldom be hindered within the church”, which increasingly led to conflicts with “new church structures”, “which are above all a result of the crisis of faith and lack of discipline in the German-speaking area of the church ". In a “self-defense community” resolved in 2006, the network claims to provide support for priests who “have got into difficulties because of their consistent conduct of office”, including, for example, “bullying in parishes and cooperation associations” or “unjustified sanctions by ordinaries or individuals Superior "sees.

Among other things, the network opposes reform demands within the Catholic priesthood to give communion to divorced and remarried people in their communities despite the ban . She insists on adherence to "clear principles of the doctrine of the Church," including the indissolubility of marriage . According to the spokesman Guido Rodheudt, the chairman of the German Bishops' Conference at the time, Robert Zollitsch, was watching "how the unambiguity of the Catholic message fell into twilight".

Networking

According to its own admission, the network of Catholic priests has been working together with the Linz Priest Circle in Austria and the Chur Priest Circle in Switzerland since 2004 . Together with the two priestly circles it forms the working group of German-speaking priestly circles . Since 2012 there has also been a separate contact point in Austria, for which Pastor Christian Sieberer in the Archdiocese of Vienna acts as the contact person. In autumn 2012, Archbishop Jean-Claude Périsset , then Apostolic Nuncio in Germany , took part in the Federal Assembly of the Priest Network.

In addition to other Catholic traditionalist organizations such as Una Voce , some initiative groups of Catholic lay people and priests as well as Pro Missa Tridentina, the network is a co-organizer of the Cologne liturgical conferences , which are held periodically in Herzogenrath in the diocese of Aachen .

Controversy

kreuz.net

On November 14, 2012, a then spokesman for the priestly network, Hendrick Jolie, admitted, after initially denying it, that he had participated in the right-wing extremist blog kreuz.net . However, Jolie distanced himself from all "discriminatory and inhuman statements" published there. Also in November 2012, further connections between kreuz.net and the network emerged. Most recently, Jolie also admitted that he had sent texts to kreuz.net himself. In comments on kreuz.net, Jolie had referred to the papal preacher Raniero Cantalamessa and the curia secretary Angelo Sodano as "brain gnomes".

Rudolf Neumaier and Frederik Obermaier pointed out in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, among other things, that the goals of kreuz.net and the network were “church-political and liturgical” and that a kreuz.net live ticker was also available on the network's website until 2009.

The Mainz Bishop Karl Lehmann accepted Jolie's apology and thanked him for his “willingness to turn back critically”. Jolie was reprimanded by the diocese , but there were no consequences under church or labor law . On November 28, 2012, Jolie declared that he no longer wanted to exercise his spokesman function in the future, and resigned from the spokesman body. Since December 2, 2012, kreuz.net is no longer available.

Shortly after the shutdown of kreuz.net, network spokesman Guido Rodheudt filed a criminal complaint against the Catholic theologian David Berger after Berger referred to Rodheudt as a supporter of kreuz.net. According to Berger, the investigation was discontinued in March 2013 by the Aachen public prosecutor's office due to a lack of sufficient suspicion .

The computer from kreuz.net was confiscated in August 2013 during a raid against two Catholic priests in Austria who were also active on gloria.tv . The two priests received criminal charges and were withdrawn from their churches, but remained at large.

Scientific investigation of abuse cases

In 2011, the network rejected the independent scientific investigation agreed with the German Bishops' Conference of the personal files of the 27 dioceses in Germany for cases of abuse by the Criminological Institute because it allegedly placed the priests under general suspicion. Instead, it called for an internal church review without a public presentation.

In January 2013 the project was canceled by the German Bishops' Conference. The abuse officer of the Bishops' Conference, Bishop Stephan Ackermann of Trier , stated: "The relationship of trust between the director of the institute and the German bishops has been broken". As further reasons, he cited reservations of the network of Catholic priests and canon law requirements for the opening of "secret archives" by the bishops.
