The initiative groups of Catholic laypeople and priests are associations of Roman Catholic laypeople and clergy who are loyal to the teaching office and loyal to the Pope, organized according to dioceses .

history

The first initiative group was set up in 1989 in the diocese of Augsburg and was brought into being with the support of Archbishop Josef Stimpfle . Initiative groups in other dioceses were formed in the period that followed. The initiative received support from many church dignitaries and representatives of science. The initiative groups belong to the "Action Group of Catholic Laity and Priests in German-Speaking Dioceses". The initiative groups are not to be confused with "Pro Sancta Ecclesia" and the "Association of Initiative Groups of Catholic Laity and Priests in the German-Speaking Area", founded in 1997, from which the initiative groups, which are now part of the action group, separated in 2000.

Some initiative groups, namely Una Voce , the network of Catholic priests and Pro Missa Tridentina are co-organizers of the Cologne liturgical conferences , which are held periodically in Herzogenrath in the diocese of Aachen .
