Crescent Dragonwagon , actually Ellen Zolotow (born November 25, 1952 in New York City , USA ) is an American writer. She is best known as an author of cookery and children's books.

Live and act

Crescent Dragonwagon was born to the well-known writers Maurice Zolotow and Charlotte Zolotow . She dropped out of school and left home when she was sixteen. She married her then-boyfriend in 1970 and lived long in a hippie - municipality . She divorced her boyfriend in 1975. She then moved to Eureka Springs , Arkansas , where she worked as a restaurant chef for many years. She later founded one of the first Country Inns in Arkansas with her second husband, who has been married in 1978, the conservationist and essayist Ned Shank, where she often worked behind the stove herself. There she also cooked for Bill Clinton and Elisabeth of Yugoslavia . Her husband died in a car accident in 2000 and she has lived in Westminster West , Vermont , with her significant other , filmmaker David Koff . Her brother is the famous poker player Steve Zolotow .

She first emerged as an author in the early 1970s, especially for cookbooks. In her works she preaches vegan food as a way to a better self and healthier life. Her children's books are based on those of her mother Charlotte Zolotow, but they have many of their own accents. Her parents' influence on her work is unmistakable. She has also written novels and a volume of poetry. In total, she has published around 50 books.
