Cribraria is a genus of slime mold from the Myxogastria group . It includes around 30 species, some of which are extremely difficult to distinguish.

features

The fruiting bodies are usually stalked, usually round to pear-shaped, rarely ellipsoidal or inversely egg-shaped sporangia , only in the case of Cribraria argillacea they are sessile and aethalic .

The peridium is reduced to a fine net-like structure, which can be more or less clearly divided into nodes and connecting threads, usually a calyculus is also present, but this can also be reduced to ribs running radially from the base. Dictydine granules can be found on the reduced peridia as well as mostly on the spores.

The genus is distributed worldwide, but around two thirds of the species are neotropical . Many of their species are common in their respective distribution areas.

Systematics and research history

The genus was first described by Christiaan Hendrik Persoon in 1794 , the type species is Cribraria rufescens .
