Crisis Force is a shoot 'em up , which in the summer of 1991 on the Famicom by Konami was released.

Gameplay

In 199X a robot army invades the Japanese capital Tokyo . Two young pilots, a man and a woman, board their spaceships to fend off the threat.

A special feature is the transformability of the spaceship and two weapons between which you can switch. There are also a limited number of Smart Bombs available. Finally, gems can be collected, with five pieces the spaceship becomes invincible for a certain period of time. With further items the speed of the ship can be changed or the weapons can be upgraded. Because of these characteristics, a certain tactical approach is required of the player.

The player must pass seven levels , each with a boss . In addition, the highest possible high score should be achieved. Crisis Force offers three levels of difficulty and can optionally also be played in pairs.

The game gained some notoriety due to the use of the Famicom hardware , such as fast scrolling in general, parallax scrolling for a good depth effect and high number of opponents. So it could also be assigned to the sub-genre Bullet Hell . There are hardly any comparable titles on the console.

Reviews

In German-speaking countries , the game was discussed by the website nescenter.de and received a rating of 9/10.

“When I saw Crisis Force in action for the first time, I was almost knocked off my feet by the splendor of the graphics. At the latest when the earth suddenly breaks up in the course of the first level and a spatial depth effect is achieved through skillful scrolling on several levels, it is clear to everyone that Crisis Force is technically in a completely different league than other NES titles. It is all the more gratifying that the shooter not only inspires with its large-caliber presentation, but also with its sophisticated gameplay and a thrilling level design. The possibility of being able to transform your glider into three different forms at any time is a great enrichment in terms of play, as it avoids unfair spots and creates scope for a wide variety of attack patterns. Thank you for this great game, dear Konami team! "
