The Retro Gamer is a magazine that deals with classic video game systems , video games and their developers. The project management is the responsibility of Jörg Langer , whereby the German magazine is a licensing of the British original Retro Gamer from Future plc .

content

Each issue contains a title topic, e.g. B. a genre or series of games to which a series of articles is devoted. Recurring sections contain tests and background information on old games, historical outlines and background information on old hardware and former development studios and publishers, as well as interviews with game designers and other personalities in the computer game industry. The content is based in part on translations of the English-language original, which are adapted for the German market. In addition, well-known German-speaking game journalists write guest articles. Regular authors include a. Anatol Locker , Heinrich Lenhardt , Jörg Langer , Michael Hengst and Winnie Forster .

Output types

The magazine appears quarterly. The number of copies sold is unknown; the magazine is not registered for the circulation of the information community to determine the distribution of advertising media (IVW). According to the publisher, the print run was 40,000 copies at the start of the magazine, although this was reduced to 25,000 in 2018 and 20,000 in 2020. In addition to the quarterly editions, special issues appear at irregular intervals that either deal with specific topics such as hardware or certain home computers or contain a collection of selected articles from a year (“yearbook”).
