Cristóbal Ortega Martínez (born July 25, 1956 in Mexico City ) is a retired Mexican football player who was often used in attacking midfield and occasionally in attack . Since 2009 he has coached the second division team of the Albinegros de Orizaba , with whom he reached the semi-finals in the Apertura 2010 and was eliminated against the eventual winner Tijuana after two goalless encounters only because of the poorer placement in the overall table.
biography
society
During his professional career of more than 17 years , he was exclusively under contract with his hometown club, Club America . It was the most successful epoch in the club's history with a total of 15 national and international titles; including six national championships and two victories in the prestigious Copa Interamericana over the Boca Juniors (1978) and Olimpia Asunción (1991).
He played a decisive role in the championship title in the PRODE 85. In the final first leg at Tampico-Madero FC he scored the only goal at America's high 4-1 defeat. But this goal turned out to be particularly important in retrospect, as America won the second leg at the Aztec Stadium 4-0 and thus managed the title hat-trick , which is rare in Mexico .
National team
His most dangerous seasons were the years between 1976 and 1980, when he scored a total of 22 goals in the Mexican Primera División . In his best season 1976/77 he scored nine goals and was appointed to the Mexican national football team for the first time on May 17, 1977 in a friendly against Peru (1: 1) . His second best season was 1979/80 when he scored seven goals. After this season he did not get more than a maximum of three goals per season and was no longer appointed to the national team until 1986. Nevertheless, he is next to Hugo Sanchez the only player Mexico, in the squad for both the 1978 World Cup and in the 1986 World Cup standing. While superstar Sánchez was involved in almost every game (he was only missing because of two yellow cards in the last group game against Iraq in 1986), Ortega was only used in the last group game of the 1978 World Cup against Poland (1: 3).
