Cristina García Banegas (born March 1954 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan organist , conductor and music professor.

Career

Cristina García Banegas was born in Montevideo, where she still lives today. She studied with Renee Bonnet and Renee Pietrafesa in Montevideo and attended master classes with Lionel Rogg , Marie-Claire Alain , Montserrat Torrent , Guy Bovet , Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini , Ton Koopman , Stefano Innocenti , Odille Bailleux , Adelma Gómez , Héctor Zeoli , Jesús Gabriel Segade and Gertrud Mersiovsky. She is a professor of organ at the Escuela Universitaria de Música de Montevideo, founder and director of the vocal ensemble De profundis , Montevideo (founded in 1987), founder and artistic director of the Uruguay International Organ Festival (also founded in 1987), and director of the choir department of the Montevideo English school . In addition to her concert activities, which regularly take her to Europe, Japan, Russia, Israel and the USA, she also researches ancient keyboard instruments and vocal and instrumental scores (16th to 18th centuries) from the Latin American continent. She also gives master classes in Europe, Latin America and the USA.
