The Korolkow Crocus ( Crocus korolkowii ) is a plant from the genus of crocus ( Crocus ).
features
The Korolkow crocus is a perennial tuber geophyte that reaches heights of growth of 5 to 10 centimeters. The outer shells of the tubers are parallel-fibred, the inner ones are paper-like and membranous. The 10 to 20 (rarely from 5) leaves are bare or slightly rough and 1 to 2 (rarely up to 3) millimeters wide. The 3 to 5 (rarely from 1) flowers are fragrant and light orange in color. The perigone measure 20 to 35 (rarely 15 to 40) × 6 to 12 millimeters. Like the perigone tube, its outside is purple to blackish, striped or speckled. The scar has 3 branches.
The flowering period extends from February to April.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.
Occurrence
The Korolkov crocus occurs in northern Afghanistan, northwest Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in the western and central Pamirs and in western Tienschan. The species grows in the thorn bush, forest and high mountain zone on fine earth, rocky slopes at altitudes of 950 to 3150 meters.

The Korolkow crocus is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens. The species has been in culture since 1885 at the latest.
