The body of this wasp is three to five millimeters long.
Occurrence
The species occurs in Europe from northern Italy to Finland, in Eastern Europe, east to Mongolia.
Way of life
The rare animals can be found in warm sand and loess biotopes, on the edges of forests, on dry grassland and in parks and gardens. They nest in bare places in sand, loess or other loose soil. The brood is supplied with small aphids and flies. The animals can be seen on the leaves of trees and bushes, but also on various flowers such as those of parsnips ( Pastinaca ) and goldenrods ( Solidago ).
