The Hellenberg tunnel is a 552 m long tunnel on the high-speed line Cologne – Rhine / Main .

It crosses under the Hellenberg in the Wiesbaden district of Naurod and therefore bears his name.

The tunnel accommodates two slab tracks that can be driven on as planned at 300 km / h.

course

The tunnel is located between route kilometers 142.9 (north portal) and 143.4 (south portal), east of the A3 . The route runs in a southerly direction in a left curve. The gradient slopes down towards the south portal.

The maximum cover is around 25 m.

history

planning

At the end of 1995, the planned length of the structure was 552 m.

In the planning phase, the tube was part of the three-kilometer-long plan approval section 33 / 1.1 ( Naurod- Bremtal).

The building permit existed from the beginning of April 1997. It was the first tunnel in the high-speed section of the new line whose construction was approved.

The Austrian-German working group ATAC was commissioned with the construction .

construction

On July 10, 1997, the first tunnel in section C and the second tunnel in Hesse (after the Frankfurter-Kreuz tunnel ) on the new line were posted. The actress Sibylle Nicolai took over the tunnel sponsorship. During the construction phase, the tunnel was appropriately referred to as the Sibylle Tunnel . Completion was expected for autumn 1998.

The final tube, 13.44 m wide and 8.19 m high, cuts through a slate mountain range .

After the dome had been driven through the mountain to its full length at the end of 1997, the interior work began in spring 1998. In mid-1998, the inner shell was concreted. It was completed as the first tunnel on the entire new line.

The tunnel was built using the mining method. It was part of construction lot C in the middle section of the new line.
