The Cryomorphaceae are a family of bacteria. The type genus is Cryomorpha .
Appearance
The gram test is negative. Some species are motile by sliding , others are not. The cells are rod-shaped, in some species filaments are formed from several cells, e.g. B. of Fluviicola taffensis . Spores are not formed. The colonies are colored yellow or orange by carotenoids . Most species require salt water to grow.
Reproduction and metabolism
They are strictly aerobic or facultatively anaerobic . With anaerobic growth, carbohydrates are fermented . The metabolism is chemo-organotrophic .
Occurrence
The species are found in many marine habitats , e.g. B. in lake water, marine sediments and coastal sand. The species Phaeocystidibacter luteus was isolated from the marine alga Phaeocystis globosa . Crocinitomix has been found in various polar habitats. Fluviicola has been isolated from fresh water. Most species are able to grow in low temperatures, e.g. B. the temperatures for the growth of Fuviicola are between 4 and 25 ° C, the optimum is around 20 ° C. With Cryomorpha ignava the temperatures required for growth are between −2 and 22 ° C, with optimal growth at 15–20 ° C.
Systematics
Due to phylogenetic studies in 2016, the Phylum Bacteroidetes was converted. Several taxa were recreated here. Among other things, the family of the Cryomorphaceae was split up, some genera were added to the newly formed family of the Crocinitomicaceae . These include the genera Crocinitomix , Wandonia , Salinirepens , Fluviicola , Brumimicrobium and Lishizhenia .
The following is a list of some genera in the Cryomorphaceae family:
