Cryptandra is a genus from the family of the Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae). It isnativeto Australia and includes over 40 species.
description
Cryptandra are evergreen, often thorny shrubs . The very small and narrow leaves are hairy white tomentose on their underside and are often in clusters.
The flowers are either as individual flowers or head-end or spike-like cymes . The flower cup is tubular to bell-shaped, the often weakly lobed disc with star hair is wreath-shaped.
The ovary is below, the partial fruits open at the extreme end as well as laterally. The three-lobed aril is succulent .
Distribution and systematics
Cryptandra are all native to non-tropical Australia. The genus was first described by James Edward Smith in 1798 . Within the buckthorn family , it is classified in the tribe Pomaderreae . The genus includes over 40 species.
