The Crystal Mill , also known as the Old Mill or Sheep Mountain Power House , is a wooden power plant built in 1893 on a rock on the Crystal River in Crystal , Colorado , USA . It can be reached by off-road vehicle from Marble . Despite the name, it is not actually a mill, but an air compressor driven by a water turbine. The compressed air was then used in the nearby silver mines to ventilate the tunnels and to operate other machines or tools.

The Crystal Mill is one of the most famous photo opportunities in Colorado. Especially on sunny September and October days, up to 500 off-road vehicles make their way to the Crystal Mill. Long stretches of the road can only be used in one lane and there is often no alternative. Not far from the Crystal Mill is the ghost town of Crystal , founded in 1880 , where around 500 people lived at times. Sheep Mountain silver mine ceased operations in 1917. This also sealed the end of the place Crystal. Many of the old houses are still standing today and are maintained by the owners.
