Culebrita ( Spanish Isla Culebrita , in German "little snake" ) is a small uninhabited island east of the island of Culebra in the east of Puerto Rico . Together with the island of Cayo Botella on its northwestern side, Culebrita belongs administratively to the eastern Barrio Frailes of Culebra.
The approximately 1.6 km long island in the shape of an anvil , which belongs to an archipelago around Culebra, has been declared a nature reserve. The only structure here is a lighthouse , which was built by the Spanish crown in 1886.
There are six beaches on the coral island , of which Playa Tortuga ("Turtle Beach") is the largest; it is named after the turtles that live here.
There are numerous large tidal pools to the east .
