Culross ( Scottish Gaelic Cuileann Ros ) is a place in Scotland . It belongs to Dunfermline in the Fife Council Area and is located north of the Scottish capital Edinburgh . The place had 404 inhabitants in 2001.
history
Culross was a center of the coal industry in the 16th and 17th centuries thanks to the merchant and engineer Sir George Bruce of Carnock . It almost became a ghost town under Queen Victoria .
Attractions
Culross Palace was built in 1597 by George Bruce of Carnock . He was a successful merchant and used many of the materials that he had access to through his trading activity. Jacob I visited the manor in 1617.
Culross has been the filming location for several films such as The Little Vampire , Captain America: The First Avenger , Kidnapped and Outlander .
