Coryphantha odorata is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet odorata means '(Latin odoratus) fragrant, fragrant'.

description

Coryphantha odorata usually forms irregular groups with spherical to short cylindrical, dark green shoots up to 3 centimeters in diameter. The soft and flaccid, blunt, cylindrical warts are up to 1 centimeter long. The axillae are bare. The 1 to 6 strongly hooked, yellowish to reddish to brownish central spines are protruding, strong and up to 2.5 centimeters long. The 7 to 9 straight, white radial spines lie somewhat on the shoots or protrude. They are 8 to 10 millimeters long.

The narrow, funnel-shaped, white or cream-colored flowers are self-pollinating. They are 1.5 to 2 centimeters long and have a diameter of 8 to 10 millimeters. The narrow, cylindrical, dark green to chestnut brown fruits are 1.5 to 2 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha odorata is common in the Mexican states of Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosí .

The first description was published in 1930 by Friedrich Bödeker . A nomenclature synonym is Cumarinia odorata (Boed.) Buxb. (1951). In 1951, Franz Buxbaum proposed the species in the monotypical genus Cumarinia (Knuth) Buxb. to lead what was supported in 2003 by Reto F. Dicht and Adrian D. Lüthy .

Coryphantha odorata was in the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN in 2002 as " Vulnerable (VU) , d". H. endangered, classified. In 2013 it was named “ Least Concern (LC) ”. H. listed as not endangered.
