The Curacoa is a submarine volcano of the northern end Tofua - island arc leading to the northern Tonga belongs Islands.

The volcano was first noticed during an eruption in 1973 . Explosive eruptions were observed from the island of Tafahi , located 27 km south-south-west, and produced extensive Dazite pumice rafts. The location of the eruption was about 6.5 km southwest of the Curacoa reef . Obviously there are several undersea chimneys in this area. The pumice rafts covered an area of more than 100 km² and were encountered by ships about 200 km further west two weeks after the eruption began.

A second eruption was observed about eight miles north of Tafahi in 1979. Thick black smoke rose to a height of about 100 m. At about the same time, a weak earthquake was felt in Nuiatoputapu, about 25 km away .
