Johann Georg Schallenberg

Johann Georg Schallenberg (* 1810 in Zug , Canton Zug ; † 1863 in Bonn , Rhine Province ) was a German-Swiss portrait painter , lithographer and photographer .

Life

After his first artistic training in Zurich , Schallenberg studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where he enrolled in painting on June 10, 1831. For the school year 1832/1833 he switched to the preparatory class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he took lessons in other classes until 1836, especially with Karl Ferdinand Sohn . After a stay in Rome , he settled in Bonn in 1841. On July 13, 1845, he opened an open-air studio in Franciscans No. 1034. In October 1847 he moved into a studio in the centrally located “Zur Post” inn. His advertisements in the Bonner Wochenblatt reveal that in the winter months he worked there as a portrait painter, lithographer and copyist as well as a daguerre typist . With his 18-year-old business, he was the first long-term photographer in Bonn. As a portrait painter he created, among other things, a portrait of the violinist and orchestra conductor Franz Anton Ries , which is preserved in the Beethoven House .
