Ongo Niua (for two Niuas ), also Niuas , are a group of islands in the southern Pacific that politically belongs to the Kingdom of Tonga . The archipelago in the far north of Tonga comprises three islands:

These islands are the peaks of submarine volcanoes protruding from the sea , some of which were still active until recently. The Niua Group was discovered in 1616 by Willem Cornelisz Schouten and Jacob Le Maire during their circumnavigation with the ships Eendracht and Hoorn for Europe.
