action

Richie is sitting in his bathtub and has cut his forearm with a razor blade in order to commit suicide. But he receives a call from his older sister Maggie, who asks him to take care of his eleven-year-old niece Sophia for a few hours. He agrees and bandages his arm before leaving. He meets his niece in the lobby of the sister's house, and together they make their way to the bowling alley. At first Sophia is dismissive of her uncle, but over time the two get along better. After bowling, Richie brings his niece back to her mother. Once there, it becomes clear that Maggie had given her brother no contact because he dropped his niece, who was drunk on drugs. Richie goes home to kill himself. Once in the bathtub, the phone rings again and his sister suggests that he visit both of them in the next few days, as she has forgiven him. Richie agrees with a smile.

background

Shawn Christensen saw his leading actress Fátima Ptacek on a morning show and then met her a week later. Christensen was only planning to find a director for his script. Since he hadn't found one by 2011, he decided to direct it himself.

Christensen developed a feature film adaptation of the short film entitled Before I Disappear . The film premiered at South by Southwest in 2014 and won the audience award there.
