Curt Becker (politician, 1905)

Curt Becker (born August 7, 1905 in Mönchengladbach ; † February 21, 1987 there ) was a German CDU politician .

Life and work

Becker studied after high school in Hamburg , Munich and Bonn law . In 1927 he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD. He then became managing director of various factories in the textile and clothing industry. He was a member of the Catholic youth movement and in the Volksverein for Catholic Germany . In 1933/34 he was taken into protective custody. During the Second World War he was a specialist advisor for the clothing industry in Berlin. In 1945 he was called up for military service and towards the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the Americans, from which he was released in autumn 1945.

In 1946 he became President of the Federal Association of the Clothing Industry (until 1958) and from 1952 until 1976 he was a member of the Presidium of the BDI . He was a co-founder of the Association of Catholic Entrepreneurs , of which he was a board member from 1949 to 1975. He was also Vice President of the European Association of the Apparel Industry.

Political party

During the Weimar Republic , Becker belonged to the center , from 1930 to 1933 he headed its youth organization Windthorstbund in Munich-Gladbach. In 1945 he participated in the founding of the Mönchengladbach CDU and became its deputy chairman. He belonged to the state and federal technical committee of the CDU for economic policy .

In 1933 Becker was a city councilor for the center in Munich-Gladbach . From 1957 to 1961, from June 11, 1964, when he replaced the deceased Luise Rehling , to 1965 and from 1969 to 1976 he was a member of the German Bundestag . He represented the constituency of Mönchengladbach in parliament.
