Curt H. Weigelt

Curt Heinrich Weigelt (born June 2, 1883 in Rufach in Alsace , † October 11, 1934 in Brixlegg ) was a German art historian .

Weigelt, son of the director of the Alsatian experimental station for viticulture and agricultural chemistry Curt Weigelt, studied art history and received his doctorate in 1910 at the University of Leipzig under August Schmarsow . From 1912 to 1914 he worked as a research assistant at the Berlin museums, especially at the Kupferstichkabinett . In 1915 he was an assistant at the Suermondt Museum in preparation for the planned Aachen coronation exhibition . Drafted into military service in 1915, he was seriously wounded near Dünaburg, spent a long time in the military hospital and was then from 1917 until the end of the war the military editor of the German Suwalkier newspaper. From autumn 1920 he was employed as an editor at the Allgemeine Künstler-Lexikon in Leipzig. In October 1923, through Wilhelm von Bode's mediation, he became assistant at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz under the director Heinrich Bodmer and remained so until 1934. He died shortly afterwards of a long-term illness.

His field of research was the history of Italian painting.
