The Curtiss P-6 Hawk was an American biplane - Fighter of the USAAC from the year 1929th

History and construction

It was the successor to the Curtiss P-1 from 1925, on whose P1-B basis it was created. The P-6 were produced in various variants. The machines had a Curtiss V-1570 12-cylinder V-engine and were aerodynamically better shaped than the old P-1 . The P-6 came into service from 1929 and was one of the most maneuverable aircraft of its time. The last types were produced in 1932 and remained in service until 1937.

A preserved Curtiss P-6 in the US Air Force Museum

A P-6E can be seen in the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio . Another machine is in the US Marine Corps Museum in Quantico , Virginia .
