Entrance to the station

Cutty Sark is a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, London . It is on the border of the Travelcard tariff zones 2 and 3, at the intersection of Greenwich Church Street and Creek Road in the Greenwich district . It is one of three DLR underground stations.

The station is named after the ship Cutty Sark , which lies in a dry dock right next door. A short walk away are numerous well-known attractions such as Greenwich Park , the Queen's House , the National Maritime Museum and the historic city center of Greenwich. A free alternative to getting across to the Isle of Dogs is the Greenwich Pedestrian Tunnel, opened in 1902 .

history

The drill head of the tunnel boring machine used in the construction is exhibited in the station

Operations on the route between Crossharbour and Lewisham began on November 20, 1999. However, some of the construction work was behind schedule. For this reason, the Cutty Sark station could only be opened two weeks later, on December 3, 1999.

The capacity of the line between Bank and Lewisham was increased between 2007 and 2009, so that trains can run with three cars. For cost reasons and out of consideration for neighboring historic buildings, the Cutty Sark station was not extended. For this reason, the rearmost and the foremost train door remain closed.
