life and work

Between 1957 and 1959 Karin Székessy studied photography at the Institute for Photojournalism in Munich.

In 1959 she began with doll photos, to which from 1963 portraits, artist portraits, still lifes, landscapes and nudes were added. In particular, the nude photographs, the focus of Karin Székessy's work, made her internationally known.

From 1960 to 1966, Székessy worked as a reportage photographer for Kristall magazine and was a member of the contemporaries group between 1962 and 1967 . From 1967 to 1969 she held a teaching position in the field of fashion photography at the Werkkunstschule Hamburg .

Karin Székessy was married to the artist Paul Wunderlich from 1971 until his death in 2010 . Numerous works were created in close correspondence over the years of marriage. “Both oeuvre - also because of their perfection - always walked a bit on the fine line between erotic underlayed fantasy and luxurious kitsch. And yet above all they stand for an idea of cultivated cosmopolitan elegance in the art world of the Federal Republic of Germany of the 60s and 70s, ”says the Photo Bastion Zurich.

Between 1984 and 1987 Karin Székessy also created around 300 cover photos for Ullstein crime novels.

Karin Székessy lives and works in Hamburg and southern France.

Her father was the business lawyer Wolfgang Pohle .
