Cylindropuntia anteojoensis is a species of plant in the genus Cylindropuntia in the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Cylindropuntia anteojoensis has a low shrubbery, is densely branched with intertwined twigs and reaches heights of 0.3 to 1 meter. There are rhombus-shaped cusps on the 2 to 3 centimeter long shoot sections . The elongated areoles are elongated upward between the neighboring cusps. They have white glochids 1 to 2 millimeters long . The single upright black main spine is 2.5 to 7 centimeters long and only present on the uppermost areoles of the shoot sections. A few additional thorns up to 4 millimeters in length are rarely formed.
The flowers are yellow. The dry fruits are 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters long and 1 to 1.2 centimeters in diameter. They ripen into richly thorny Velcro fruits .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Cylindropuntia anteojoensis is distributed in the Mexican state of Coahuila in the area of the Bolsón of Cuatro Ciénegas in the Chihuahua Desert at an altitude of 800 meters. The distribution area extends to a total of 7500 square kilometers.
The first description as Opuntia anteojoensis by Donald John Pinkava was published in 1976. Edward Frederick Anderson placed the species in the genus Cylindropuntia in 2000 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered. The populations are threatened by increasing agricultural use of the habitat areas and it is assumed that the population will decrease.
