Cynthia Gooding

Cynthia Gooding (born August 12, 1924 in Rochester , Minnesota , † 1988 in Kingston , New Jersey ) was an American folk singer in the early 1950s.

Career

She was one of the first artists Jac Holzman signed to his fledgling record label Elektra .

Multilingual , she not only recorded songs in English, but also interpreted numerous folk songs in their national language, such as Spanish, French, Italian, Mexican and Turkish.

In 1953 she released three LPs with Elektra: Turkish And Spanish Folk Songs , Mexican Folk Songs and The Queen of Hearts-English Folksongs .

Italian Folk Songs followed in 1954 and recordings with Theodore Bikel in 1956 for his duet album A Young Man and a Maid .

In March 1962 , shortly before the release of his first album, she interviewed the aspiring Bob Dylan on the show Folksinger's Choice on the US broadcaster WBAI , during which Dylan also recorded eleven songs.

Life

Cynthia Gooding was married to Hassan Ozbekkan. Together they have two daughters, Ayshe and Leyla.
