Cyril Bowles

Cyril William Johnston Bowles (born May 9, 1916 in Glasgow ; † September 14, 1999 ) was the fourth bishop of Derby from 1969 to 1987 .

He graduated from Cambridge University , and was ordained in 1949. He was initially vicar in the parish of Barking . He was then chaplain at Ridley Hall Theological College in Cambridge where he eventually became dean . He became archdeacon before becoming bishop in 1969. As Bishop of Derby , he had a seat in the House of Lords from 1973 to 1987 .
