Cyril Plant, Baron Plant

Cyril Thomas Howe Plant, Baron Plant (* 27. August 1910 in Leek , Staffordshire , † 9. August 1986 ) was a British trade union ( trade unionist ).

life and career

Plant was born in Leek and began his professional career as a sorter at the post office . He was also a soccer player and later also became a soccer referee .

In 1934 he joined the Inland Revenue union and later became executive director of the Inland Revenue Staff Federation , of which he was a founding member. In the years after 1944, he was Assistant Secretary ( Assistant Secretary ), Deputy Secretary General ( Deputy Secretary ) and finally General Secretary ( General Secretary ). Plant was also elected to the General Council of the Trades Union Congress in 1960 and was its president in 1975.

In 1977 Plant retired from his union posts. He became an advisor to the Police Federation of England and Wales. In 1978 he was made a Life Peer .
