Czermno is a Polish village in the municipality of Tyszowce in Powiat (district) Tomaszów Lubelski the Lublin province .
history
In the early Middle Ages, this was the fortified trading center of Czerwień , the administrative seat of the Red Rus . It remains to be seen whether it was a main town of the Bužanen before the rule of the Varangians , as there are different representations as to whether their name is derived from the western or the eastern Bug . The Nestor Chronicle mentions the conquest of the place by the Kiev Grand Duke Vladimir I on his march against the Ljachen .
In the 11th to 13th century Czerwień belonged to the Russian principality of Halych-Volhynia . It was probably destroyed in the Mongol storm in 1240 and finally sank around 1300.
archeology
The remains of the once important site were excavated in 1952, 1976–1979 and 1997. In addition to the actual ramparts, there were additional fortified outbuildings and three cemeteries, settlements on both banks of the Huczwa and remains of a wooden bridge over this river.
According to analyzes by the Archaeological-Ethnological Institute (Instytut Archeologii i Etnologii) of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Czerwień should have been on a par with the Gniezno and Poznań centers .
