The Dão ( Rio Dão in Portuguese ) is a right (northern) tributary of the Mondego . It flows through the Viseu district in the region of central Portugal . The Dão rises in the district of Penalva do Castelo , then flows in a south-westerly direction and flows into the reservoir of the Aguieira dam above Santa Comba Dão .

At Ferreirós do Dão the Asnes and Dinha flow into the Dão. About five kilometers east of the municipality of Fragosela , the Dão is dammed up into a reservoir by the Fagilde dam.

The wine-growing region of Dão (Port. Região Demarcada do Dão ) was named after the river.
