life and work

Few details are known of Dídac Roca's biography. He was a student of Joan Marc at the Escola de Montserrat , who directed it from 1641 to 1658. The name Dídac Roca often appears in connection with the suffix "fra" (brother), which is why it is assumed that Roca professed the Benedictine rule. This hypothesis is also supported by the fact that Roca is referred to in other documents by the name “religioso bernardo” (Bernhard, the religious).

Dídac Roca was the organist in the Montserrat monastery. He was also head of the Escolania de Montserrat . From 1662 to 1664 he worked as organist in La Seu d'Urgell .

Villancicos , songs and sung romances for three and four voices as well as the work Estote fortes in bello for five voices have survived by Dídac Roca . Due to the fire in the monastery in 1811 due to the war, very few works have survived. These are all polyphonic and composed in the baroque style .
