The Dörneberg near Viesebeck nature reserve is located south of the Wolfhagen - Viesebeck district and covers around 25.57 hectares. The Dörneberg was designated as a nature reserve on December 21, 1982 and, together with the Wünne near Viesebeck, is one of two such areas near Viesebeck. In addition to various bird species, the strictly protected sand lizard was also found in the area.

The Upper Nature Conservation Authority at the Kassel Regional Council , the Wolfhagen Forestry Office and the Agriculture Department of the Kassel district are responsible for maintaining and maintaining the area .

history

The area around the Dörneberg has probably been settled since the Paleolithic and was used as pasture for sheep and goats until the 20th century . This is where the name "Ziegenköppel" comes from. In the sheet Wolfhagen submitted by the Electoral Hessian General Staff in 1859 , the Dörneberg is depicted free of forests and partly served as agricultural land . Even after the expulsion of a nature reserve, it was still possible on a part of Dörnebergs to 1992, pesticides and fertilizers for agricultural use. The Dörneberg is still grazed today.

Like the Wünne, the Dörneberg was used in the past to extract limestone for building blocks and quicklime .
