history

After the construction of the partially parallel Hokkaidō-Shinkansen high-speed line began in 2005, it became apparent that JR Hokkaido would withdraw from the Esashi Line. After a lengthy preparatory phase, a new operating company was founded on August 1, 2014, which on December 24 of the same year took on the name Dōnan Isaribi Tetsudō. On March 26, 2016, the day the Hokkaidō Shinkansen opened, it took over operations on the Esashi Line.
