D-Block Europe
D-Block Europe , often referred to as DBE , is an English trap duo from Lewisham in south-east London . Since 2018 they have been one of the established hip-hop acts in Great Britain.
Band history
Hailey Glassman aka Dirtbike LB and Adam Williams aka Young Adz knew each other from school and after Young Adz put his track Da Prodigy online at the age of 13 , they discovered their mutual interest in music and became friends. Young Adz made a name for himself with his mixtapes and got a record deal with the major label Universal , which didn't last long. The US rapper Jadakiss from The Lox (also known as D-Block ) noticed him and got in touch with him. A collaboration did not come about because he was not allowed to travel to the USA, but he was signed by Lox's own label. This is where the name D-Block Europe came from . Originally the rapper Aero Sinc was the second member, but Dirtbike LB replaced him in 2014. The duo turned to the trap and developed their own mix of styles from London rap and melodic US styles, which they called "Trapwave". Their typical use of autotune began with the single Thank the Plug in 2017 . In the same year they got a lot of attention for a remix of Tunnel Vision by Kodak Black and after that their own songs got millions of views.
The breakthrough came in the summer of 2018 through a collaboration with Yxng Bane . With the joint single Gucci Mane they made the jump into the British charts for the first time . The joint mixtape Any Minute Now reached number 14 in the album charts. With their own single Kitchen Kings , D-Block Europe also made it into the top 20 of the single charts at the beginning of 2019 and received their first gold award for it. During the year the duo produced 3 mixtapes, all of which reached the top 10 and produced a total of 10 chart singles. At the BRIT Awards , they were nominated for Best British Music Group.
Young Adz had also released some solo features earlier this year. In April 2020 his collaboration with the two grime rappers Skepta and Chip was released : The joint album Insomnia reached number 3 in the UK charts and was also placed in several other countries.
