Skepta
Skepta (* 19th September 1982 , real name Joseph Junior Adenuga ) is a British Grime - musician and music producer .
biography
In the 2000s, Skepta started as a rapper on the radio and in MC battles. In 2005 he founded the collective Boy Better Know and the label of the same name with Wiley , his brother Jme and others . In 2006 he also became a member of Roll Deep .
His first album Greatest Hits (2007) did not receive much attention, it was only with the song Rolex Sweep in September 2008 that he had a respectable success. Six months later he had his first hit in the UK Top 75 with Sunglasses at Night . Nevertheless, his second album Microphone Champion did not make it into the charts either.
Skepta's breakthrough came in 2010 when she switched to the All Around the World label . With Bad Boy , Rescue Me and Cross My Heart (with the Indian-born singer Preeya Kalidas) he had three top 40 hits in a row. The album Doin 'It Again reached number 19 the following year.
After a break, the single That's Not Me followed in 2014 , a collaboration with his brother Jme that earned him his first platinum award. The second platinum followed the following year with shutdown . With the album Konnichiwa , he finally made it to the top in 2016. With place 2 and 32 chart weeks it was his most successful publication and for the first time he was able to place himself in the charts internationally. B. in the USA , Australia and Western Europe. The album was awarded the Mercury Prize . The biggest international hit single had Skepta two years later as a guest with Praise the Lord of ASAP Rocky . The song got platinum in England and double platinum in the USA.
In 2019 Skepta released his fifth album Ignorance Is Bliss . Although he again achieved second place in his home country and further placements in Europe and Australia, overall it lagged behind the success of its predecessor. The same Old Story track became the soundtrack of Electronic Arts' FIFA 20 game .
