Octavian (born January 22, 1996 in Lille , France ; actually Octavian Oliver Godji ) is an English-French rapper. In the vote for the Sound of 2019 , he took first place.

biography

Octavian Godji was born in France, but after his father's untimely death, the family moved to England when he was three and moved to Camberwell south of central London. It was there that he mainly grew up, even though he lived with an uncle in France for two years because his mother could not get along with him. He later received a scholarship to the renowned BRIT School . But the training did not satisfy him and when his mother put him outside, he dropped out of school and decided to find his own musical path. He did more badly than well and lived a long time without a permanent residence.

It wasn't until 2017 that he had his first success with the piece Party Here . The success was limited to the Internet, but an Instagram post by the Canadian rapper Drake with the song increased his popularity again considerably. He released three more singles before signing with Black Butter and starting to work on his debut album.

In September 2018, the album Spaceman was released and immediately placed him in the chart, albeit only at number 98. Musically, it ranks between grime , drill and house . He was critically praised and in the BBC Sound of 2019 poll he was voted number 1 among the most promising new talents at the turn of the year. His second album Endorphins followed in June of that year , but again there was no commercial success. Only the song Bet with the support of Skepta made it into the charts, but missed the top 40.
