Headie One

Headie One (born October 6, 1994 in London ; real name Irving Ampofo Adjei ) is an English drill rapper. With the top 10 hit 18hunna he had his breakthrough in his homeland in early 2019.

biography

Irving Adjei aka Headie One comes from Tottenham in north London. In the mid-2010s, he was a member of the Star Gang rap crew that emerged from the Tottenham Mandem Gang . Originally he came from the trap and released two mixtapes first alone and then together with RV on his own. With the third mixtape Drillers and Trappers , he and RV developed in the direction of UK drill . With that they established themselves in the local scene and founded their own crew called Original Farm Boys (#OFB), named after the residential area Broadwater Farm Estate , where they come from.

In 2018, Headie One released the solo mixtape The One with hits like Golden Boot and Know Better . His popularity continued to grow and the successor The One Two brought him his first chart placement. But he finally moved into the front row of UK rappers in January 2019 with the hit 18hunna with the participation of rapper Dave . The song debuted at number 6 on the UK charts and also earned him the first silver record . The next solo mixtape Music x Road in the fall even made it into the top 5 and featured guest contributions from Skepta and the Canadian Nav . The single Audacity with Stormzy brought another top 10 placement.

The song Do not Rush by Young T & Bugsey , in which he participated, was originally a top 30 hit. In spring 2020, however, it became independent on the Internet through the #DontRushChallenge and became an international hit. In England it went into the top 20 and in the USA it reached number 56 on the Hot 100 . A rather experimental collaboration with producer Fred Again was only moderately successful, although a mixtape and two songs made it into the charts. In the summer of 2020, however, he had a second international hit with Only You Freestyle , a collaboration with the Canadian star rapper Drake . It was his third top 10 single in the UK charts.
