The DDR Museum Pirna is a privately run museum in Pirna in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains .

exhibition

In a permanent exhibition the museum gives insights into life in the GDR up to 1989. On two floors with a total area of ​​2,000 square meters, 120,000 exhibits (as of April 2013) are shown in changing exhibitions. The exhibition includes a fully furnished shop , a kindergarten, a classroom, an infirmary and various vehicles as well as works by the photographer Hartmut Schorsch ( FF included ). Since May 2011, the old Dresden “ Lottchen children's tram ” has been on the outside of the museum . A rarity is a pacemaker from the 1960s and a dishwasher .

history

The exhibition shows the collection begun in 1993 by Conny Kaden. The museum was opened on July 16, 2005 on 250 m². In its first year of existence, it had almost 10,000 visitors. Since March 31, 2007, the museum has been located at Rottwerndorfer Straße 45 in Pirna in an old barracks of the former NVA pioneer battalion with 700 m² of exhibition space. The second floor of the building has also been in use since April 2009, expanding the area to 1500 m². In 2009, the Museum celebrated the 60th anniversary of the founding of the GDR and with an address of Erich Honecker- - Doubles and more than 4,000 visitors. In 2010, a 2500 m² solar system was built on the roof of the museum. In 2013 almost 30,000 visitors came to the museum.

The museum has already welcomed some personalities as guests, such as B. Thomas Barth , captain of the GDR peace voyage selection or puppet doctor pill (alias Urte Blankenstein ).

Sponsorship

The museum is financed exclusively by private funds and does not receive any funding or support from the city, state or other institutions.
