history

At the end of 1990, when many institutions were struggling to survive, there was also plenty of scope for new things in Dresden. The Young Generation Theater and the Dresden Transport Company decided to create a children's tram, a project that is unique in Germany. A decommissioned type ET57 / EB57 tram was painted in spring 1991 by children from the youth art school in Albrechtsberg Castle ; the then department for education, youth and sport certified the takeover and co-financing. On May 11, 1991, the Lottchen children's tram was seen on Dresden's tracks for the first time. Trips to the city and district history, carnival or Christmas trips and offers for the youngest Dresdeners ensure good occupancy.

In 1995 Lottchen could be experienced internationally. The German wave and the British BBC also took advantage of the children tram for their Dresden-posts among others. In November 1995, the children's tram project was represented at the 26th International Toy Mobile Congress in Zurich. On the fringes of the congress there was contact with the Ratinger playmobile Felix . Since then there has been a close exchange between the two youth welfare offices.

In the mid-1990s, the first children's tram train had to be retired, but a replacement was found and a second train of the same type was painted in bright colors.

In August 1999, the then acting Federal Defense Minister, Rudolf Scharping, took the Lottchen children's tram and answered questions from the children traveling with it. In August 2001, the Saxon Prime Minister Kurt Biedenkopf paid a greeting in a greeting to the close partnership between the Lottchen children's tram and the Ratinger Spielmobil Felix: "Only through active partnership and the networking of activities can projects like this arise and exist in a united Germany," said the Prime Minister . The Meissen Porcelain Manufactory dedicated a porcelain figure to the partnership between "Felix" and "Lottchen". Other long-standing and good partners are the Dresden Tram Museum e. V., the Stadtspiele-Verlag Dresden, Palaces and Gardens Dresden as well as the UNICEF working group Dresden.

In 2010, the youth welfare office and DVB AG decided that a complete rebuilding of the Gotha children's tramway, which has now become necessary, was not feasible. The alternative was found with a Tatra T4D railcar , which previously served as a DVB driving school car. This is also designed for children, has 38 seats thanks to the expansion of the middle door and was put into operation on July 2nd, 2010. In contrast to other Dresden line Tatra cars, which were modernized from 1994 and received a thyristor control, the new Lottchen-Tatra is one of the last with the original control.

The old Lottchen-Bahn found its final resting place in the GDR Museum Pirna and will be accessible to all visitors and interested parties after the opening on May 1st, 2011. By 2012, over 135,000 passengers took the children's tram.

In September 2012, the project was co-organizer and participant in the 40th International Toy Mobile Congress in Dresden, in which 200 guests from seven nations took part.
