The DEG V 21 was a three-axle diesel locomotive with rod drive , which was designed for medium-sized shunting and light mainline service. It was built in 1953 by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen (ME) and was given the designation DEG V 21 , later DEG V 41 , by the German Railway Company (DEG) . The locomotive corresponds to the SJ V3 , which was built in large numbers , was used on various DEG routes and scrapped in 1973.

development

In 1950, the Esslingen machine works received an order from Statens Järnvägar to manufacture a total of 50 V3 series locomotives. In addition to the Swedish Munkedals Järnväg , the Deutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft ordered a locomotive of this type because it already had Esslingen railcars in its inventory.

technology

The locomotive corresponded to the type program of the machine works Esslingen the type designation HOF , which corresponded to machines with the wheel arrangement C and an engine power of 440 to 900 HP. It was manufactured in 1953 with the serial number 5129. This type was offered with gauges ranging from standard gauge to 1676 mm . Outwardly it corresponded to the SJ V3 , it received the high driver's cab for a better view of the route after a conversion in 1964.

The locomotive had a diesel-hydraulic drive with a six-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine from KHD and an L 37 fluid transmission from Voith .

commitment

Initially, the DEG locomotive was used on the Kaldenkirchen – Brüggen small railroad after an acceptance run in February 1954 between Kaldenkirchen and Bracht and was designated V 21 , in 1954 the designation was changed to V 41 . The locomotive was last on the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis-Eisenbahn from 1970 and was parked there in the same year after an engine failure, retired in 1971 and scrapped in 1973.
