The DET-250 ( Russian ДЭТ-250 ) is a Soviet and later Russian chain tractor , which was designed in the Tscheljabinski Traktorny Sawod (German: Tscheljabinsk Tractor Factory, kurzТЗ for short, transcribed TschTS) from 1956 and has been in series production since 1961. Machines of this type are still produced today (as of 2016). The tractor, which is often used as a bulldozer , was the first vehicle of its kind with diesel-electric drive in the world in 1956 .

Vehicle history

The first complete prototype of a DET-250 was fully assembled on April 30, 1956 and solemnly presented to the public on the May 1st parade in Chelyabinsk . At the time, the vehicle was the first of its kind with a diesel-electric drive . The built-in diesel engine, a throttled modification of the W-2 tank engine , drives a generator . This converts the mechanical into electrical energy, which is transmitted to an electric motor via cables and controllers . This procedure offers the advantage that a highly stressed mechanical gearbox is not required, as is the clutch. In addition, the vehicle with a working speed of up to 15 km / h with a sliding blade was one of the fastest dozers of its time.

The series production of the machines called tractors by the manufacturer began in 1961 and has continued to this day. In 1969 a slightly revised version appeared with the DET-250M, which was built until 1989. The manufacturer has been producing the DET-250M2 since 1989, which has also been slightly revised. The basic principle of the machine, its dimensions and also its exterior always remained the same.

Contrary to various announcements that production was discontinued in 2013, machines of this type were delivered by the manufacturer in 2016. The vehicle is also still being offered. This means that the machine, which was constructed 60 years ago, has been in continuous series production for more than half a century with only minor changes.

The current version of the vehicle achieves a pulling force of 377 kilonewtons at the lowest speed.

Some DET-250s also came to the German Democratic Republic and were used there for various special tasks in the lignite opencast mines.
