The Upper Augusta Township is a township in Northumberland County in Pennsylvania , United States . It was formed in 1846 by the division of Augusta Township (one of the seven original townships of Northumberland County, established in 1772) into the Upper and Lower Augusta Townships. At the time of the United States Census 2010 , there were 2586 people living here, compared to 2556 inhabitants in 2000.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has an area of ​​60.3 km 2 , of which 52.5 km 2 are land and 7.8 km 2 (= 12.97%) are water. The township is unusually irregular in shape; it consists of two wedge-shaped parts, the larger of which is in the northeast and the smaller in the southwest and which are connected by a long strip of land. The township includes the Susquehanna River located Sunbury a fully because the Countygrenze runs along the west bank. The land area of ​​the township therefore also includes the river islands Byers Island and Packers Island ; the latter is opposite Northumberland , is inhabited and connected to both banks by bridges.

The township is sparsely populated. Mt. Pleasant is in the central north of the township. Keefers is a street village on the north slope in the valley of Shamokin Creek . To the east of Sunbury, Hamilton and Oaklyn are left and right of Little Shamokin Creek .

Demographics

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Upper Augusta Township was inhabited by 2556 people. The population density was 48.7 people per km ². There were 1058 housing units at an average of 20.2 per km ². The population of Upper Augusta Townships was 98.16% White , 0.51% Black or African American , 0% Native American , 0.08% Asian , 0.12% Pacific Islander , 0.47% said other races belong to and 0.67% named two or more races. 0.74% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The residents of Upper Augusta Townships were distributed to 1,022 households out of which 26.1% were living in children under 18 years of age. 66.6% of the households were married, 5.9% had a female head of the household without a husband and 23.5% were not families. 20.5% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 10.7% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.80.

The population was divided into 20.0% minors, 5.8% 18–24 year olds, 26.9% 25–44 year olds, 29.4% 45–64 year olds and 18.0% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 women there were 98.3 men. For every 100 women over the age of 18, there were 96.8 men.

The median household income in Upper Augusta Township was 41,875 US dollars and the median family income reached the amount of 48,875 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 35,489 compared to $ 21,389 for women.
