Lower Augusta Township is a township in Northumberland County , Pennsylvania , United States . It was formed in 1846 when Augusta Township (one of the seven original townships of Northumberland County founded in 1772) was divided into Upper and Lower Augusta Townships. At the time of the 2010 United States Census , the townshship had 1,064 residents, up from 1,079 in 2000 .

Most of the township consists of an undulating hilly landscape. According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has an area of ​​52.9 km 2 , of which 47.3 km 2 is land and 5.6 km 2 (= 10.58%) is water. The township lies entirely in the catchment area of the Susquehanna River .

The natural boundaries of the township are Little Mountain in the south, the Susquehanna River in the west and an approximately 300 m high ridge north of the Sealholtz Run in the north. Administratively, the township borders the Upper Augusta Township in the north and the Rockefeller Township in the northeast and east . Neighboring to the south is the Little Mahanoy Township and from the western summit of Little Mountain to the west is the Jackson Township . On the west bank of the Susquehanna River, the border with Snyder County runs with Penn Township and north of it with Union Township .

Since the Susquehanna River belongs to the area of ​​the township, the area of ​​the township also includes the mostly elongated islands in the river. From south to north or upstream, these are the northern part of Hoover Island , Little Hoover Island directly north of it, Kinney Island , Fishers Island and Cherry Island . There are also numerous smaller unnamed islands as well as sand and gravel banks .

There are a number of named locations in the township. Selinsgrove Junction is on the east bank of the Susquehanna River, where the Selinsgrove Bridge crosses the river. Asherton and Mile Run are street villages in the Hallowing Run Valley, and in the Boile Run Valley is Patricksburgh . The Resler settlement is located in the very southeast of the township.

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Lower August Township had 1,079 people. The population density was 22.8 people per km ². There were 425 housing units at an average of 9.0 per km².
