Rush Township is a township in Northumberland County and one of five townships with that name in Pennsylvania , United States . At the time of the 2010 United States Census , Rush Township had 1,122 residents, up from 1,189 residents in 2000.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of ​​70.9 km 2 , of which 69.3 km 2 is land and 1.6 km 2 (= 2.23%) is water.

The natural boundaries of Rush Township are the Susquehanna River to the north , the Little Roaring Creek valley to the east, Shamokin Hill and its continuation to the west in the south, and the Gravel Run valley to the west.

Rush Township borders (clockwise) on Point Township in the northwest, Riverside in the north, Montour County with Danville , Mahoning Township , Cooper Township and Mayberry Township in the northeast and east, Shamokin Township and Snydertown in the south and Upper Augusta Township in the west.

There are a number of isolated settlements in the township. In the valley of the Gravel Run lies Klines Grove and at its confluence with the Susquehanna River Wolverton - both are little more than desert . To the southeast are Union Corner and Quitman , and Boyd is on the Susquehanna River, east of Blue Hill. In the center of the township is Rushtown . In addition, homesteads are scattered throughout the township, and meadows, farmland and smaller forest areas alternate.

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Rush Township had 1,189 people. The population density was 17.1 people per km 2 . There were 469 housing units, an average of 6.8 per km 2 . The population in Rush Township was 98.23% White , 0.25% Black or African American , 0% Native American , 0.67% Asian , 0.08% Pacific Islander , 0.17% said other races belong to and 0.59% named two or more races. 0.25% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.

The residents of Rush Townships were distributed to 443 households out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18. 66.8% of households were married, 5.0% had a female head of household without a husband, and 25.5% were not families. 22.1% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 10.8% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.16.
