The roughly wedge-shaped Point Township is in the middle of the county where the narrow northern part meets the wide southern part of the county. The natural boundaries are the Susquehanna River to the southeast and its western arm to the southwest . In the north, the border of the township runs on the ridge of the largely wooded Montour Ridge , which in the eastern section also forms the border with neighboring Montour County . To the west, where the Montour Ridge reaches its greatest height, the townships East Chillisquaque and West Chillisquaque are neighboring to the north .

In the southwest, the Point Township borders on Union County with Union Township ; the county boundary runs along the west bank of the river. In the southeast the border runs in the river; here on the other side of the river are the Upper Augusta Township , the Rush Township and the Borough of Riverside . The point at which the two arms of Susquehanna meet does not belong to the Point Township, but is incorporated into the Borough of Northumberland .

Due to the elongated location of the township between Montour Ridge and the two Susquehanna arms, the settlement of the township is concentrated in a few places in the valley. In the east of the township lies the street village of Chulasky along US Highway 11 . Then Cameron and Oak Park follow in a south-westerly direction . Lithia Springs is north of Oak Park in the valley of Lithia Springs Creek . To the northwest, directly adjacent to Northumberland, lies outside the borough boundaries of Kapp Heights . This Northumberland suburb is named after Kapp further upstream on the West Branch Susquehanna River.

The Point Township lies entirely in the catchment area of the Susquehanna River; Gaskins Run , Raups Run , Packers Run and Lithia Springs Creek (with the Johnson Creek tributary ) are right tributaries of the main trunk of the Susquehanna River.
