The township has natural boundaries in the north with the Limestone Ridge and in the south with the Montour Ridge . Administrative neighbors are Turbot Township in the north, Montour County with Liberty Township in the east, Point Township in the south and West Chillisquaque Township in the west .

The Chillisquaque Creek flows westward from the Liberty Township into the East Chillisquaque Township and then takes a southerly direction of flow along the eastern border of the township until it has reached roughly the middle of the north-south extension of the township. It then flows west-south-west until it reaches the western border of the township, then swings south again and from there forms the border with West Chillisquaque Township until it reaches the foot of Montour Ridge and then flows west. The Pennsylvania Route 45 runs of the river on the south shore, where it crosses the township from east to west. To the south of it are two prominent hills called The Knobs , of which the western one is the higher at 189  m .

The area south of the river is sparsely populated; there are only a few homesteads or wastelands here, especially along Kreamer Road. To the north of the township, Potts Grove extends along Pennsylvania Route 642 and some branching side streets .
