The Turbot Township is a township in Northumberland County in Pennsylvania , United States . Turbot Township had a population of 1806 in 2010, compared to 1,677 in 2000.
geography
Turbot Township is located in north-central Northumberland County. It has a rural character and is mainly used for agriculture. According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 36.4 km 2 , of which 35.9 km 2 are land and 0.5 km 2 (= 1.63%) are water. The township is located in an open, flat area and therefore has a natural border with the West Branch Susquehanna River only to the west.
The administrative neighbors are the Delaware Township in the northwest , the Lewis Township in the northeast, the Limestone Township in Montour County in the east, the East Chillisquaque Township in the southeast and the West Chillisquaque Township in the southwest . To the west is Milton and across the river is Union County and White Deer Township .
The north of the township is drained by the Muddy Run , while the Limeston Run takes over this function in the southern part of the township . The Interstate 80 running from northwest to southeast by the Turbot Township; exits 31 and 32 are in the township area. Exit 31 is a nearly regular freeway clover where US Highway 188 turns north and Pennsylvania Route 147 heads south. At Exit 32, Pennsylvania Route 254 crosses , which runs east to west through the south of the township.
Demographics
At the time of the 2000 United States Census, Turbot Township was inhabited by 1,677 people. The population density was 46.8 people per km 2 . There were 692 housing units, an average of 19.3 per km 2 . The population in Turbot Township was 97.44% White , 1.25% Black or African American , 0% Native American , 0.30% Asian , 0.06% Pacific Islander , 0.36% said other races belong to and 0.60% mentioned two or more races. 0.83% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.
