Shamokin Township is a township in Northumberland County , Pennsylvania , United States . At the time of the United States Census 2010 , 2407 people lived here, up from 2,159 in 2000.

The City of Shamokin is not within the boundaries of Shamokin Township, but rather within Coal Township , which is south of Shamokin Township.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of ​​80.7 km 2 , of which 80.4 km 2 is land and 0.3 km 2 (= 0.32%) is water.

Natural boundaries of the township are in the south of Little Mountain , in the east of Shamokin Creek , in whose catchment area the township lies completely, and in the north an unnamed chain of hills with Shamokin Hill on the northeast corner of the township. The Irish Valley is of Benny's Run flows through; he and the Lick Creek are the two named tributaries of Shamokin Creek in Shamokin Township. They are both orographic left tributaries.

Administratively, the Shamokin Township borders in the north on the Rush Township , in the east on the Ralpho Township , in the south on the Coal Township and the Zerbe Township , in the west on the Rockefeller Township and north of the Pennsylvania Route 61 on less than 200 m in length Upper Augusta Township . In the northwest is also Snydertown .

The road villages of Stonington , Mayfair, and Meadowview run along Route 61 from west to east , then the road turns into the valley of Shamokin Creek and heads south. In the valley of Shamokin Creek above the non-township Borough Snydertown are the hamlets Deibler and Reed . The hamlet of Millers Crossroads is located in the northwest of the township.

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Shamokin Township was inhabited by 2159 people. The population density was 26.9 people per km 2 . There were 906 housing units, an average of 11.3 per km 2 .
